From Hand-Painted Daisies to Digital Pattern Design
There’s something I’ve always loved about starting with paint and paper. The movement, the imperfections, and the quiet rhythm of watercolor bring a natural softness that I try to carry into all of my designs.
This daisy artwork began as a simple analog painting using Winsor & Newton watercolor markers. I was drawn to the loose, organic shapes of the petals and the gentle way the color flows across the paper. It’s in this stage that the personality of the piece really begins to take shape.
From there, I bring the artwork into Adobe Illustrator to begin the digital process. In the video below, you’ll see how I place the original painting, use image trace to capture the color and detail, and begin refining it into a repeatable pattern.
This step allows me to preserve the hand-painted quality while building a design that can be used for fabric, wallpaper, and other surface applications.
For me, this process is about more than just creating a pattern—it’s about translating something handmade into a format that can live in everyday spaces. Each design starts with intention, and every step is created by hand, from the first brushstroke to the final repeat.
Developing the Collection

Once the original artwork is refined digitally, I begin developing it into a cohesive collection of patterns.
This stage is about creating balance and variety—designing supporting prints that complement the hero pattern while allowing each design to stand on its own.
I often incorporate a mix of florals, smaller ditsy patterns, and classic elements like stripes or subtle textures to bring the collection together.
Each pattern is thoughtfully designed to work across fabric and lifestyle products, creating a unified story that feels both timeless and versatile.
From Pattern to Product

Once the collection is complete, I begin exploring how the designs can live beyond the screen.
Seeing the patterns applied to real-world products helps bring the collection to life and provides a clear vision for how it can be used across fabric, stationery, and lifestyle pieces.
This stage is where the full story comes together—from the initial hand-painted artwork to a finished, market-ready design.
My goal is always to create patterns that feel both beautiful and functional, designed to be used and enjoyed in everyday life by.
Exploring Colorways

Color plays an essential role in shaping the mood and versatility of a collection.
Once the patterns are developed, I explore different colorways to see how the designs can shift in tone while maintaining a cohesive story.
This variation introduces a softer, more refined palette, with muted blues, warm neutrals, and gentle greens.
The result is a collection that feels calm, timeless, and adaptable across a range of fabric and lifestyle applications.
By thoughtfully adjusting color, each design can take on a new personality while still remaining part of a unified collection.
